Oh what wonderful news we received tonight!!! This is the day we have been waiting for for the last four months!!
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2008 09:50 PM, CST
Malia is officially, Cancer-Free, Chemo-Free, and Port-Free! It was a very simple and quick procedure today. We arrived at 9:00 and the surgery was scheduled for 10:00 but really started about 10:45ish (we had to wait a little longer than anticipated for the anesthesiologist). Anyway, about 20-30 minutes later we saw the surgeon and she said it was quick and simple and that Malia was being taken to recovery. We went back to wait while she woke (it took a good 30 minutes or so) and after she reassessed where she was she settled down when she had Wendy, she ate a popsicle, I showed her her port (we kept it) and then shortly after we came home. She's had a fabulous appetite today and has been in great spirits! We are all looking forward to having the good ol' day to day 3 yr old issues and nothing more (except blood draws at the clinic). She'll have to go monthly until January and then every other month for a couple of years and then quarterly until she hits the 5 year mark. Then it will be annually :-). I'm so glad this is behind us now! It was only 4 months but it felt like years. Thank you so much to all of you for continually sending positive thoughts, wishes, and energy to all of us. And for always keeping tabs as to how we all are doing. It is extremely comforting to know that we have so many loving people in our lives!
Extra big hugs to all of you
